How To Make Money By Felix Dennis – Top 10 Ideas
I have been reading many books lately on how to handle your financial situation because I was struggling with it as well.
Everything started one year and a half ago when I first read Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kyosaki. One of the main point from the book is that you need to invest on yourself so that you can develop your skills and then sell what you have learned to others.
I Listened to that advice and I attended a bartending course, I know it can seem something quite simple, but for me was a really huge change because I was actually committing to something for the first time in my life. After a while, I moved to London, and luckily I started working, I was able to earn money for the very first time in my life. It was a breakthrough for me, I went from 0 to having 1000 pound in the bank, so my financial situation got 1000 times better in just one month.
All of this to say that if you read books like Rich Dad And Poor Dad and apply what they are saying you are going to improve your life.
Now let’s get down to business:
HOW TO MAKE MONEY SUMMARY AND REVIEW
Almost all the books that I read on self-development and how to make money are always stressing out the fact that if you are going to put in a lot of work, for a long period of time, you are going to succeeded. I know this might seem repetitive but it is important to hammer on this concept because we are constantly being brainwashed by society on the magic pill. You are going to succeed not if you want it, not if you need it, not even if you deserve it but only if you are determined and will give 100% of yourself to achieve your goals and to become rich.
“The answer to “who is likely to succeed?“, perhaps then, is this: not those who want to and not those who need to or those who deserve to, but those who are utterly determined to, whatever the cost to themselves and to those around them.” How To Make Money By Felix Dennis Page 7.
2. PRACTICE + TIME = SUCCESS
You can take care of your financial situation and in order to be able to do that you must stop rationalizing to yourself. If you are living nowadays in a western country, you really don’t have any excuse. You just need to be in good physical and mental health, then nothing can stop you from becoming rich but you. Don’t psyche yourself out thinking about how likely is going to be for you to become rich, just understand that if you practice and do your “homework” the rewards are going to follow.
“Anyone prepared to dedicate themselves and persevere in the getting of money will eventually succeed. To such a person, the odds of success are meaningless.” How To Make Money By Felix Dennis Page 13.
3. START NOW
There is no better moment to make any kind of change in your life than now, stop telling yourself that you are going to take care of your diet tomorrow, that you are going to make that call tomorrow, that you are going to improve your financial situation tomorrow. Guess what is going to happen tomorrow? You are just going to keep lying to yourself. Make a commitment; take a decision, cut out all other options, start right this moment!
“There is no point in sitting around thinking about getting started – not just for the getting of money but for just about anything….Begin now, or turn away.” How To Make Money By Felix Dennis Page 15.
4. BE WILLING TO BE HUMILIATED
Most people give more importance to what others think of them than to the possibility of success, so they prefer never to play it risky and to stay in their comfort zone, they are always thinking: what if am I going to fail? It never occurs to their mind that they might actually succeed.
“If you have ever wondered why there are so few really, wealthy self-made men and women in the world, you now have the answer. It has little to do with chance and everything to do with your capacity to accept the risk of being humiliate in the attempt – not just once, but many times, perhaps.” How To Make Money By Felix Dennis Page 25.
Ideas alone are worth nothing; probably you already had many good ideas that could have made you money, did you act on them? That’s the difference between an entrepreneur and everyone else.
“Good ideas are like Nike sport shoes. They may facilitate success for an athlete who possess them, but on their own they are nothing but an overpriced pair of sneakers. Sports shoes don’t win races. Athletes do.” How To Make Money By Felix Dennis Page 125.
Time never comes back and is the most important asset that we have and we lose it a little bit every second. What are you doing with your time? Are you just wasting it or are you investing it? The tasks that you don’t want to do are clearly the ones that you should address first!
“There is only one enemy. Time. Health, wealth, even love and affection can be reclaimed if all goes for the best; time never can. Time wasted can never be recaptured.” How To Make Money By Felix Dennis Page 149.
7. BE PREPARED TO GET LUCKY
“If Lady Luck exists, she is highly perverse, choosing to visit those who have little apparent need of her and ignoring others desperate to worship at her shine.” How To Make Money By Felix Dennis Page 152.
8. THERE ARE NO SHORT CUTS
There are simply no shortcuts in this game, if you want to become successful, you will need to work a lot and put a lot of effort in what you do. If you are going to surf the web and are going to find some strange scheme saying that you can easily earn one thousand dollars working from home, I have a bad news for you: is complete bullshit.
“The inferior man’s reasons for hating knowledge are not hard to discern. He hates it because it is complex- because it puts an unbearable burden upon his meagre capacity for taking in ideas. Thus his search is always for short cuts.” How To Make Money By Felix Dennis Page 155.
9. BE WILLING TO CHANGE YOUR MIND
To be successful you need to be willing to change your mind, if the needs of the costumers and of the markets are changing and you don’t improve your service or product you are just going to lose a lot of money. For instance, when the blackberry was doing great the guys from the company believed that nothing was ever going to change but then the Apple came in and the rest is history. Blackberry was not willing to accept that the market was changing.
“Most of us would prefer for things to stay pretty much the same so that we can carry on making money in the same way. But things do not stay the same.” How To Make Money By Felix Dennis Page 197.
10. THE NARROW ROAD
In order to become and stay successful you need to follow a strict set of behaviours. Felix Dennis calls this concept the narrow road to get rich you need to make the right choice, or else, stay on the narrow road as long as you breathe. If you don’t do so you are going to start backsliding and will eventually get back from where you came from, being average.
“If you are merely a wannabe, then the siren voices will prevail, and they will be right to prevail. If you are a gonnabe, then they will not prevail. Like Odysseus you will stop your ears with wax or bind yourself to the mast. You will learn to walk your narrow, lonely road – and to hell with the siren voices. You will not give in. And you will be rich.”
